Connect to a US or Canada server first, then open TextNow. One consistent server works best.
Get the app for your phone, PC, or Mac and sign in. Takes under a minute.
Use Fastest Location, or choose a specific city yourself. Stick with the same one all session.
TextNow's help page says to reconnect if login fails, so connect to VPN Super first, then open TextNow.
TextNow's help page says it "is not supported" outside North America. Outside the US and Canada, it just stops working.
A few countries limit or ban VoIP calling apps to protect local carriers, and plenty of schools and offices block them too.
TextNow only needs a US or Canada IP, so here's what VPN Super gives you in those two countries.
| Tier | US locations | Canada locations |
|---|---|---|
| iOS / Windows / Mac — Free | 22 | 2 |
| iOS / Windows / Mac — Premium | 35 | 4 |
| Android — Free | 12 | 1 |
| Android — Premium | 19 | 1 |
Recomputed live from the server database on 2026-08-04—these grow over time, so treat this table as a snapshot, not a permanent number.
Five 10Gbps clusters built for calls: Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, and New York all run on 10Gbps clusters, a solid pick when call quality matters most.
Auto tries Super, IKEv2, OpenVPN, and V2Ray until one works, so a single blocked port won't end your session.
Check your IP in the app menu (☰) before you open TextNow, so you know you're on a US or Canada address.
Recent servers are saved, so reconnecting to the same city takes one tap, not a fresh search every time.
Split Tunneling sends just TextNow through the VPN on Android, so other apps use your normal connection.
DNS and IPv6 leak protection on Windows and Mac keeps your real IP hidden from TextNow's checks.
Turn it on in Settings so your internet pauses if the VPN drops, instead of falling back unprotected.
iOS and Android are free to start. Windows and Mac need Premium for TextNow's desktop apps.
| Feature | Free VPN | Premium subscription |
|---|---|---|
| Platform access | iOS and Android only | iOS, Android, Windows, Mac |
| Windows and Mac access | Not available — Premium only | Available |
| US server locations | 12–22 depending on platform | 19–35 depending on platform |
| Canada server locations | 1–2 depending on platform | 1–4 depending on platform |
| DNS/IPv6 leak protection (Windows/Mac) | N/A — Windows/Mac require Premium | Included on Windows and Mac |
Amazing app! I've been able to access different applications that were once banned in my region.
Fast, reliable, and works where others don't. Works across Asia, even China. Great for public Wi-Fi.
Great VPN with fast speeds and instant connection. Has no timeout and has many locations as well.
TextNow says on its own help page that it "is not supported in any country outside of North America or through a VPN," and its fraud detection can flag VPN traffic. Connecting to a US or Canada server and sticking with it usually works, but TextNow can still flag a connection now and then—that's TextNow's call, not something any VPN can promise around.
TextNow checks for signals like inconsistent IPs or DNS requests that don't match your VPN's location. Switching servers mid-session is the most common trigger, so pick one US or Canada server and stay on it.
TextNow's own community has flagged this as risky, especially during sign-up and verification. It's safer to create or verify your account first, then reconnect to VPN Super afterward.
No. TextNow's service only covers those two countries. A VPN gets you a US or Canada IP address, which is different from TextNow expanding where it works.
Not necessarily. It's more likely to trigger a login or verification prompt than a permanent ban, though no VPN can promise TextNow won't ever flag a connection.
Leave the protocol on Auto. If you're near one of VPN Super's five US 10Gbps clusters—Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, or New York—that's usually the steadiest pick for calls.
In most places, using a VPN on its own is legal. Check your local laws if you're unsure—this is more a TextNow policy and detection question than a legal one.
On iOS or Android, yes. The free tier covers 20 countries and 42 locations on iOS, or 15 countries and 26 locations on Android, including US and Canada options. Windows and Mac are Premium-only.
