House of the Dragon Season 3 premieres Sunday, June 21, 2026 at 9 pm ET on HBO and HBO Max, with the eight-episode run wrapping on Sunday, August 9. Below: the cheapest legal route in each major market, the VPN workarounds that actually work, and the ones that do not.
Showrunner Ryan Condal returns, with Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D'Arcy, and Ewan Mitchell all back. The full season covers episodes 19 through 26 of the overall series and picks up directly from the Battle of the Gullet setup at the end of Season 2. In the US, the floor is HBO Max Basic with Ads at $10.99/month. The annual version works out to about $9.17/month if you pay $109.99 upfront. There is no free trial — HBO Max removed the US trial in 2021 and has only brought it back twice (briefly) for major launches.
In the UK, the NOW Entertainment & HBO Max Saver plan is the lowest entry point. NOW historically runs the Saver around £6.99 to £7.99/month for six months, then about £9.99/month after — confirm the current promo on nowtv.com. A direct HBO Max UK subscription at £4.99/month for Basic with Ads is cheaper still, but it skips the live Sky Atlantic feed.
In Germany, the WOW annual plan at €5.98/month undercuts the new HBO Max Germany service and includes a 7-day free trial — the only standing free trial we found in any major market for this season. In Australia, BINGE Basic with Ads at $10 AUD/month is the floor, with a $5 first-month promo on the Standard plan. In Canada, Crave Standard with Ads at $11.99 CAD/month is the entry point; the standing free trial that ran in 2024 is no longer available, but $3.99-for-three-months and similar promotional offers appear seasonally — check the Crave homepage before signing up.
A VPN gives you a different IP address, but it does not give you a different account. Two practical rules apply when you travel.
VPN cannot create a new account abroad: If you do not have an account in any HBO Max country and you are trying to create one over a VPN, the payment-method check is the wall. HBO Max requires a card billed in a supported country — a UK VPN with a US-issued card will still register as a US account.
HBO Max detection is stricter than most: HBO Max maintains a rolling list of VPN server IPs and shows a "you appear to be using a VPN" message when it catches one. Premium server pools cycle ahead of the blocks, but no service is immune. If a server stops working, swap to another in the same country.
A VPN cannot fix slow internet: HBO Max needs about 5 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps minimum for 4K, with 50 Mbps recommended for stable 4K playback. If your line is below 5 Mbps, no VPN setting will fix the buffering.
If you only need a single episode and have none of the above, HBO has historically posted the Season 1 premiere free on its YouTube channel and on hbo.com/watch-free-episodes. That is the only legal free entry point we could verify, and availability changes — check before assuming. No. House of the Dragon has never been on Netflix in any market and will not be. It is a Warner Bros. Discovery / HBO original and streams exclusively on HBO Max and HBO Max's regional broadcast partners.
Not as a standard inclusion. In some markets you can rent or buy individual episodes of Season 1 and Season 2 through Prime Video's storefront, and Crave Standard with Ads is now available as an add-on channel through Prime Video Canada at $11.99 CAD/month, but Season 3 is not part of Prime Video's regular streaming library anywhere.
JioHotstar carries every season of House of the Dragon including Season 3, through the HBO Max hub launched in April 2026. Pricing starts at ₹49/month for the HBO Max add-on. Episodes typically land on Monday in India because of the time-zone shift from the US Sunday night premiere.
Three options: WOW (Sky's streaming service) at €5.98/month on the annual plan, Sky Deutschland on cable, and HBO Max Germany direct from €5.99/month at launch. WOW also offers a 7-day free trial — the only major-market free trial we found for this season.
Not required. House of the Dragon is set roughly 200 years before Game of Thrones and was designed by Ryan Condal as a standalone story. You will recognise houses and sigils if you have watched the original series, but the plot is self-contained.
